13 ICT Firms Representing Pakistan IN GITEX 2011

Posted: 10 Oct 2011 09:17 PM PDT

gitex logo thumb 13 ICT Firms Representing Pakistan IN GITEX 201113 Pakistani ICT firms are participating with their products and service solutions in the world’s famous expo GITEX, being held in Dubai from October 9 to 13.

These companies have set up their stalls at Pakistan Pavilion, displaying and briefing about their products to visitors from all around the world. Pakistan IT Pavilion is located in the GITEX Business Solutions Hall.

Pakistani exhibitors included A2Z CREATORZ, Arizona Computer Services, Business Beam, e-Access, EfroTech, Gen. Team Solution, Pakistan Software Export Board, Royal Cyber Inc., Sabri Technologies, SecureTech Consultancy, TRG Pakistan and others

Reportedly Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) and Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) have sponsored the local companies with financial assistance from Rs 0.2 million to RS 0.25 million per company.

PSEB selected its four members companies having innovative products and services for the ICT events. The rest of the companies are being supported by TDAP in line with the government objective to boost exports of IT Products and Services, said Sulman Hassan of PSEB.

It won't be out of place to mention that Pakistani ICT firms hadn't participated in the yesteryear’s GITEX after PSEB had failed to gain required approvals from the government.

GITEX is the only international event where Pakistani companies have been participating as a group under the umbrella of PSEB for last 10 years, hence is considered as only chance for local industry to meet the global clients.

According to Gitex Organizers, 136,114 ICT professionals from 139 countries visited Gitex in 2010 with 93% rating. 3,523 companies exhibited from 65 countries with an incredible 84% reported as meeting or exceeding stipulated ROI targets.

As per Gitex Organizers, Gitex 2010 was covered by 1400+ media representatives from 72 countries and that GITEX is the only Middle East based event that connects 3500 international/regional exhibitors with over 136,000 professionals.

GITEX is globally recognized as the largest and most important business-to-business ICT trade event for corporate, enterprise and SME businesses serving the Middle Eastern, African and South Asian markets and hence can be considered the clear platform of choice to meet, interact and do business with buyers and influencers from these dynamic markets.

Important regional and global IT players include India, Singapore and China while emerging Asian Players including Vietnam, Philippines, Egypt, Jordan and Tunisia actively participate in the event by showcasing IT companies in their respective country pavilions.

PTA Website Attacked, Hacker Demands Ban on Po*n Sites

Posted: 10 Oct 2011 11:00 AM PDT

Read this post in Urdu

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority's website was hit by a hacker earlier in the evening. Hacker didn't deface the website, instead a page was inserted into PTA server (which has been removed now).

This hacker is apparently the same person who had hacked supreme court website a week ago.

Hacker, which names himself as Zombie_KSA, has asked PTA to ban all websites containing explicit material. Same hacker had defaced Supreme Court website a week ago with a similar message to Chief Justice of Pakistan.

It merits mentioning here that PTA, Minister of IT and Chief Justice of Pakistan was written a letter by a 9th grader few months ago. The kid had demanded the authorities to ban all websites that contain objectionable material.

Update:

PTA has removed the damaged page from the server. A communication with PTA officials confirmed that PTA website is working properly and there's no way of intruding into it.

Thanks AssiSMS for tipping

UsualWords: Taking a Shot at Social Networking Market

Posted: 09 Oct 2011 09:09 PM PDT

usualwords thumb UsualWords: Taking a Shot at Social Networking MarketFirst a bit about the product and the company: UsualWords is a venture by a Pakistani company Mindcusp.

It recently had a soft-launch and now the website is in open beta.

The tagline UsualWords uses is "Preserve, and share your life – past, present, and future life experiences with UsualWords".

So it should be clear that its not your regular social networking site. Its not aiming to challenge Facebook, rather carves its own niche among users.

UsualWords is primarily a web-based service which allows you to preserve, and share your life with your family, friends, and people from all over the world. It’s an online network where people can share their life experiences, goals, ambitions, dreams – browse through life experiences of interest, follow friends/like-minded people, and share opinion on life experiences they like.

These days there are so many new ventures that people would just rather stick to the familiars like Facebook and Twitter. So unless a venture is providing something new or revolutionary, its going to be a bust. Which brings us to the question, what does UsualWords have going for it that would make you bookmark it?

Firstly, I think that its idea is somewhat unique. We share our lives through personal websites or blogs. But its not an efficient way of keeping up with someone. Even if the website is designed and categorized well, you usually don’t have a central hub where you can track all the people you want to keep up with. Here’s where UsualWords comes in.

What UsualWords focuses is on on sharing your life experiences. You can share memories, events, goals, dreams, thoughts or something from the other categories. Their visibility can be public, to friends only or only to you.

So it could become a personal journal of sorts which has all significant events in your life, thus providing you with a timeline of your life. It maps these experiences to the dates that they happened to provide an accurate life map. You can link keywords to your updates so people know what its about and can search for it.

clip image002 thumb UsualWords: Taking a Shot at Social Networking Market

UsualWords calculates and presents some statistics and trends based on the life experiences people are sharing which gives a broad insight of user’s life, and over-all community.

It tells you what part of the life user/people are sharing, and to which areas of life most of their experiences relate to. Based on these trends, application suggests you other people who are sharing part of their life you are interested in which you can follow or make friends. All of these things give a very clear picture of the person’s whole life on a single page.

Have a look at following profile (which is public in nature). At top there are profile details, with time line below it. Above timeline there are mentions of dreams, events, goals, ideas, memories, quotes, thoughts etc..

profile thumb UsualWords: Taking a Shot at Social Networking Market

UsualWords is a product that would appeal to everyone. Whether you’re an individual, or a company, track your achievements, memories, and goals using this application. If you’re a celebrity, share with your fans the lessons you’ve learnt in this life in becoming one. If you’re a parent, mark your children’s birthday, graduation day or share anything that matters to you in life.

Recommendation of life experiences to your friends, sharing of opinions, bookmarking, centralized search, real-time notifications are some other major features which UsualWords presents.

All in all, its based on a good idea. But whether it will survive or starve and die because of a lack of users, only time will tell. The internet is a brutal place for start ups these days so lets keep our fingers crossed.

ProPakistani RSS Feed thumb Thank You 20,000 ProPakistani RSS Subscribers

Yesterday ProPakistani achieved another milestone of having more than 20,000 RSS listeners, majority of which are email subscribers, in addition to thousands of those who visit this website regularly.

95 percent of our RSS listeners receive ProPakistani posts by email, every morning – meaning that all the content posted on this website reaches to nearly 20,000 email subscribers every day.

Just if you are curious, 99 percent of our subscribers are from Pakistan. Majority of those from telecom sector obviously, from all the companies, from top to bottom. For instance, we have 929 Mobilink employees subscribed to our daily email newsletter. Same is the case with all other cellular companies, PTCL, infrastructure vendors, regulators, contractors and so on.

Another significant share of email subscribers include IT professionals, telecom students and those who want to remain updated with Pakistan's telecom and IT industry.

These figures are huge, nothing short of amazing, to us at least – keeping in mind the narrowed niche we are covering and country where we are serving, this amount of RSS subscribers is indeed a boost to our morale.

We appreciate the valuable time you spend checking out our posts. We thank you for your comments and criticism which has helped us grow further – please keep it coming, always.

We thank you all for making ProPakistani what it is today.
